Cycad Estates supports South Africa’s senior citizens this Mandela Month
Residentia Ons Huis will always hold a special place in my heart
The Cycad Estates team is proud of its recent donation towards Residentia Ons Huis, a retirement village in Florida.
This old age home has been operating since 1967 and currently provides care to about 80 senior citizens, many of who are frail and no longer able to care for themselves.
Tessa Aggenbacht, owner of Cycad Estates, said that the old age home and staff greatly assisted in providing the professional care her grandmother needed in her senior years. “Residentia Ons Huis will always hold a special place in my heart, and this is why it was very easy for me to select it to be the beneficiary of Cycad Estates’ contribution towards this year’s Mandela Month,” she said.
On Mandela Day, the Cycad Estates team handed over cleaning materials and toiletries, as well as a quantity of ‘knit-a-square’ squares, which the elderly will sew together to make blankets for homeless kids and orphans.
“We give the blankets to the Soweto Comfort Club Charity, which donates them to orphans in the larger Johannesburg area. In addition to supporting this very worthy cause, the programme has proved to be a very effective way of keeping our residents active, healthy and motivated members of society,” said Marita van den Berg, manager of Residentia Ons Huis.
The Cycad Estates team enjoyed their time interacting with some of the residents, while also learning more about the retirement village and engaging with staff, including the care providers and Joseph, a dedicated security guard who has been working there since 2009.
