Team Rage makes Horison their new home

Coach believes the move was a positive one

The Team Rage Kickboxing Club has moved to a new venue in Horison.

Coach Darin Opperman said that they have been discussing a move from the Roodepoort CBD for quite a while now, and it was not an easy decision. “But, looking at our new venue, and the students’ relaxed manner, I am sure that it was the right one to make,” he said.

The club started training at the Golden Reef Road Runners Club situated at 8 Andrew Street in Horison on 1 July. “I am confident that our club numbers will continue to grow, as we have already had quite a number of new students joining us here. I have quite a few exciting things planned for the club, and want to incorporate different facets into our training as well,” said Darin.

At the moment they will have kickboxing training on a Monday and Wednesday evening from 6pm to 8pm, but from September there will also be a boot camp type of class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as cardio kickboxing classes.

“I am also busy learning the art of Krav Maga, and want to start teaching this on Saturdays as well, with the assistance of my coach,” he said.

He confirmed that their club will be joining the running club on their weekly time trials, in order to keep their fitness levels up to standard. “I have also spoken to the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) champion, Henry Mandini, and he will visit us and help with training, which is quite exciting, especially for my students, like Cole Langa, who participates in the Supreme Fighting League (SFL) as well,” Darin said.

Darin added that his club is one of only three in Roodepoort that are registered with the South African Kickboxing Association (Saka), and he said, “This means we are recognised as an official kickboxing sport.
