Uncertainty over cause of fire at water reservoir

No wards were affected.

At about 3.30pm during the afternoon of Sunday, 1 July, a fire broke out at the water reservoir on Mimosa Street in Wilropark.

It is uncertain what caused the fire. Initial speculation led to the belief that the fire was at the pump house, but later residents claimed that it was the Vumatel power box that was burning. Residents of Wards 83 and 85 expected problems with their water supply but since the water pumps were not affected, these fears did not materialise.

The spokesperson for the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services could not be reached for comment.
