Clear skies, cold weather, but no rain or snow for Gauteng
According to the South African Weather Service, we can expect temperatures to fall within the "cold category".
Several forecasters have predicted rain and snow for the western, southern, and eastern parts of the country, but Gauteng can simply expect some pretty cold weather, without snow or rain.
As you read, there are two cold fronts making their way towards South Africa’s south-western coastline, bringing with them seriously cold conditions for the Cape. According to Snow Report SA (https://www.snowreport.co.za/), the cold front is expected to make landfall this Sunday, 1 July.
“By Sunday evening, we should see some snowfall over the peaks of the majority of the Cape mountains,” a social media post from a community organisation based in Kwa-Zulu Natal read. It continued to say that they expect “… more than 15cm on some ranges, including those of Hottentots Holland, Cedarberg, Matroosberg and the Boland mountain range.”
They are also expecting the snow to reach parts of the Northern Cape as far as Springbok, before moving eastward where it will hit other parts of the Northern Cape and Lesotho and could even stretch as far as some parts of Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Despite the snowy, icy conditions expected nearly everywhere south of Gauteng, our weather is expected to be fine.
Snow Report SA’s founder, Rob Ansell, dismissed any possibility of snowfall in Gauteng, saying, “Gauteng is definitely going to feel the chill as a result of the cold front, but no snow is expected in Gauteng.”
Storm Report SA (https://www.facebook.com/stormreportsaOFFICIAL/), a community organisation based in Bloemfontein, confirmed this, saying, “The Western and Eastern Cape are expected to be hit by the brunt of the front and will therefore receive most snowfalls. Clear skies are also in the forecast, which means cold nights with freezing temperatures expected in areas.”
South African Weather Service forecaster Kumsa Masizana was also able to clarify that the maximum temperatures in Gauteng will be dropping to within the “cold category” (12ºC–16ºC) on Monday, 2 July, and Tuesday, 3 July. “There won’t be any rainfall or overcast conditions in Gauteng, so we will only suffer from the cold snap,” she said.
Now that you have been warned of what is to come, here are the forecast temperatures for the next six days:
• Saturday: 6ºC – 19°C
• Sunday: 5°C – 19°C
• Monday: 3°C – 17°C
• Tuesday: –1°C – 12°C
• Wednesday: –1°C – 13°C
• Thursday: –2ºC – 14ºC
