100 candles for Klein Helderkruin resident

Doreen celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends

Doreen Marx recently celebrated her 100th birthday in the company of friends and family, who went out of their way to make her day special.

Doreen was born on 21 June 1918, and has two daughters, Meryl Unsted and Shirley Fraser. She has been blessed with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, ranging in age from seven to 23 years.

To celebrate her special day, family and friends organised a birthday party for her, filled with fun, love, laughter, a birthday song and a birthday cake with a 100 candle for her to blow out and make a wish.

Doreen’s granddaughter, Karen Unsted, described her grandmother as someone who is an inspiration to others, and said, “Our Nana lives and leads her life in a positive manner; she is as sharp as a button, she has a great sense of humour, she loves cricket as well as knitting, and is dearly loved by her friends, family and all that know her.”

Doreen lives at the Klein Helderkruin Retirement Village, where she is surrounded by friends who adore her.

“We are so blessed to be able to celebrate Granny Doreen’s 100th birthday with her. She is a beautiful person and an example to many of us. We hope that she will be blessed with a lot of happiness and good health. We love you very much, Granny Doreen,” said Annette Malan, the secretary of the village’s FUN club.

Doreen also received a birthday gift from everyone residing in the village.
