Horizon karateka excel at national championships

They brought 38 medals home

Thirty-eight karateka from the Horizon Karate Centre excelled at the recent SA JKA National championships.

The championships took place over two days at the Ellis Park Arena, where the karateka joined more than 3 000 others from all nine provinces. They participated in both kata (individual and team) as well as kumite (fighting).

They managed to bring home a total of 38 medals – 10 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze. Fifteen karateka were also selected to be a part of the JKA African Cup team.

“I am very proud of all my students who participated, they did exceptionally well. We do not regard karate as a sport and points playing game. When we do participate in a competition, it is regarded as a test of skill, and everyone who participated definitely passed this test,” said sensei Wendy Wannenburg.
