Stop complaining, change your focus

Older person from Florida writes:

In the last few months, several older job-hunters have written to this newspaper complaining bitterly about their job-hunting experiences. They say they don’t get replies to their applications, don’t get interviews and generally get no joy, due to BEE, their age, and being too experienced, on top of not being offered decent salaries, to mention just a few of their gripes.

But here’s the thing – all job applicants, from young graduates, to school leavers and generally the ‘younger’ population, also have an uphill battle.

So to all the ‘oldies’ looking for jobs – if what you are doing is not working, change your focus, change your attitude, stop complaining, get positive and be realistic about the situation you are in. Nobody owes you anything and you don’t have a right over the next person to have a job. There are factors other than your skills that an employer takes into consideration when making a decision.

I empathise with you all and don’t mean to be derogatory, but why feel worthless, non-existent and negative because of other people, as hard as it may be?

Wishing you all well.
