Gwendoline Pretorius, the Managing Director of the centre, said, “We would like the community to know that these services are offered free of charge, and we are in need of volunteers.”

She added that volunteers required police clearance before they can help at the centre.

Counselling is offered to victims, who can also attend weekly support groups that cover topics such as bereavement, domestic violence, rape, trauma and self defence.

The centre also offers healing therapy through arts and crafts, knitting, sewing, pottery and gardening. “Besides these services, life-skills training is also offered to the women, to assist them to become more independent and liberated from their lives of violence,” said Gwendoline.

To become a volunteer at the centre, or to find out more about their needs, contact Gwendoline on 083 381 8707, 063 040 6897, or 083 413 7116, visit their website at www.champ4change.org or visit their Facebook page, Champions for Change – NPC (https://www.facebook.com/champ4change/)
