First 20 candidates started training

Through the partnership of Jubilee Community Services and Arcskills, 20 unemployed youth from the community have been given the opportunity to gain new skills and join the workforce.

The programme consists of three parts – theory, practical and work experience. The candidates will be doing theory and practical for six weeks, after which they will be exposed to the working environment for another six weeks. The training – which is for mig and stick welding – will be facilitated by Arcskills and the funding will be provided by the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (MeRSETA).

The candidates, 17 males and 3 females, were recruited by Jubilee Community Services from communities such as Westbury, Newclare, Maraisburg, Ennerdale and Eldorado Park.

Lasado Veldman, Armin Delport, Vusumuzi Tshabala and Glison Damons will soon be able to put their welding experience to good use.

Virculine van Heerden from Jubilee Community Services said that they were excited to be part of this wonderful initiative and thanked Andrew Zondi from ArcSkills for their help with the first – of hopefully many – skills programmes that will be on offer.
