Meet Poorte’s coaching director
"I am so excited be part of a very professional setup at Poorte and cannot wait for the season to begin."
Louw Parsons has been playing and coaching rugby for as long as he can remember, and has finally made the move from Randfontein to Poorte.
Louw began his rugby career all the way back in the 1980s when he represented Transvaal Sub-Union at junior level. He also played for South Eastern Transvaal and went on to represent Westelikes and Sturrock Park after school. He would go on to play for the Far Northern Transvaal side as well as the Far Northern Transvaal Defence Force side during his time in the Defence Force.
He moved to the West Rand in 1990 where he played for the West Rand Rugby Club (Harlequins).
Louw played his final competitive match for Harlequins at the age of 47, alongside his sons Wesley and Jeanrae.
He has not only left his mark as a player, but as a coach as well, having coached everything from Welpie (bulletjie/ pre-school) rugby to club rugby.
He coached at Roodepoort High School for 13 years and won the Golden Lions League twice in 2007 and 2015.
He has also coached club rugby at Roodepoort Rugby Club, Westrand Rugby Club, and most recently Randfontein Rugby Club.
It was with Randfontein that he had a five-game unbeaten run against Poorte between 2015 and 2017.
Thankfully, Louw has made the trip back to Poorte and is set for a rocking 2018 season.
“I am looking forward to taking the club back to where they belong in the Pirates Grand Challenge league,” he said.
Louw is also celebrating 30 years of marriage with the love of his life, Hilda Parsons, and the couple are blessed with two sons and two grandsons, six-year-old Jean-Luke and nine-month-old Lian.
“I am so excited be part of a very professional setup at Poorte and cannot wait for the season to begin,” Louw concluded.
