Almin Ebrahim, a business owner who has been operating two shops in the area for years, noticed that the drain outside one of the shops was clogged up, and reported the matter to Joburg Water, following the correct procedures for logging a complaint.

“I called Joburg Water and reported the matter on 1 February. They gave me a reference number and I was told they would come out to fix it. It has been more than three weeks now, but nothing has been done. The blockage has become worse and is starting to affect my business now,” he said.

According to the marketing and communication manager at Joburg Water, Isaac Dhludhlu, they could not find his reference number on the system. “As a result, a new jobcard has been logged and escalated to the depot with a new reference number,” said Dhludhlu.

According to the City’s turnaround time schedule, the blockage should have been fixed within 24 hours. However, Ebrahim confirmed the problem has still not been attended to.
