Excellent results for Judoka

'I am very proud of our judoka'

“We have had a great start to the year and are excited about what might still be in store for us,” said Sensei Katja Bruwer.

Eleven judoka from the KJK Judo Club took part in the recent National Judo Trials at the Feather Market Convention Hall in Port Elizabeth, and achieved excellent results.

“Judoka were invited to participate in the trials, based on their 2017 ranking points. They were also required to attend a National Training camp in January, which also took place in Port Elizabeth,” Katja said.

In the Pre-cadet age group (13- to 14-year-olds), Ruan Terblanche, Moagi Molefe and Keagan Diab achieved first places. In the Cadet age group (15- to 17-year-olds), Christelle Goliath and Dewald Schultz achieved first places. Shawwal Bagaria and Ferdinand van den Heever achieved third places and Ruan Delport placed fourth. In the Junior age group (18- to 20-year-olds), Harm Venter placed first and Kyeren Bartman, second.

In the Senior age group, Willem Truter placed fourth.Katja added that the judoka in the Pre-cadet age group will be attending a training camp and possible tournament in South Africa and said, “There is a possibility that there will also be a Commonwealth Championship later on in the year.

“The junior and cadet trial winners will be attending the African Championships (Junior and Cadet) in May, in Rwanda, as well as Commonwealth Championships later on this year. “The medal winners at the African championships will be eligible to attend the World Championships (Junior and Cadet),” said Katja.

She concluded by congratulating all the judoka on their achievements, and said, “I am very proud of our judoka! We work hard and support each other. I would also like to extend a big thank you to all our judoka who did not attend trials, but were always there to train with those preparing for trials.”
