24 injured in taxi accident

Minor to serious injuries reported.

Twenty-four people have been injured this morning (7 February), including twenty-two children, when a taxi and light motor vehicle collided on Maraisburg Road in Newclare.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, found a taxi in the middle of the road while a light motor vehicle was on the pavement between two trees.

Community and CPF members were already extricating the children from the taxi.

Paramedics assessed the victims and found that two adults from the light motor vehicle and one child from the taxi had sustained serious injuries. Twenty-one other children from the taxi sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided pain-relief medication to the seriously injured, before they were transported to various private and provincial hospitals for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
