Sewer pipe upgrade for Ward 83
Sewer pipe upgrade in the areas of Roodekrans and Helderkruin will start soon
Repairing and reinstatement of existing manholes will be part of the sewer pipe upgrade project that will take place in sections of Roodekrans and Helderkruin in the near future.
In a recent press release, Ward 83 councillor, Suzanne Clarke, stated, “The primary objective of this project is to replace the existing vitrified clay pipes in sections of Roodekrans and Helderkruin, while the existing alignment of pipes will be kept as is. The duration of the project is about eight months.”

According to Clarke there will be approximately 220 manholes. The scope of work also covers the installation of 160 mm diameter pipes using the pipe cracking method. The project is set to include dealing with sewage flow during construction; location and protection of existing services in the area; repair and reinstatement of existing manholes; reconnecting to the existing sewer, and other processes.
The project has been divided into four phases, with contractors selected to work in the different areas. Community Liaison Officers (CLO) will help the community with any queries. A public meeting will be held to introduce the contractors and the CLOs today, 22 January at Klein Helderkruin, Graphite Street at 6:30pm.
