Using this app could make you R25K richer

The Awethu application is not only good for entrepreneurial guidance, but using it could make you a cash prize winner.

Budding business owners who are students at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges stand a chance of winning money to grow their businesses.

College students from around South Africa have been named semi-finalists in the Absa Turbo TVET Competition. The young entrepreneurs downloaded the Awethu Project application (app), and are using it to become financially independent entrepreneurs. Over the past four months, each of the students attended business growth sessions, hosted by the Awethu Project and Absa.

Co-founder and CEO of the Awethu Project, Yusuf Randera-Rees, said these sessions were aimed at helping the students start or grow their businesses.

From there, each student was encouraged to download the app – an award-winning solution that is a digital coach on your phone.

“The free app puts essential training and tools into the hands of not only the students, but all aspiring entrepreneurs. The best part is that the app offers a level of daily support that the over 7 000 current users would not have otherwise had access to,” said Yusuf.

The 58 semifinalists have been invited to an exclusive networking session where they will meet and learn from like-minded entrepreneurs. Leaders from this stage will be given individual in-person business coaching that is tailor-made to their business, and then be given the chance to pitch for a grand prize of up to R25 000, plus ongoing business coaching from the Awethu Project.

One of the West Rand-based young entrepreneurs is Shiela Zwane, currently studying at the South West TVET College in Roodepoort, who is hopeful of being among the winners, alongside the other entrepreneur from her college, Jabulani Chikota.

The winners will be announced at the end of November.
