More public pools will be ready for summer
Local swimming pools set to open mid November and December
The swimming pools that were not ready to open at the start of the swimming pool season in September, will be opening soon.
During the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development’s initial inspection of the city’s swimming pools in August, it was reported that out of the 57 public pools in the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) only 49 were ready to open for the swimming season at the start of September. The remaining eight pools were closed for major repairs and maintenance.

The CoJ is very serious about the safety of its citizens, and in addition, also has the responsibility of adhering to Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. These regulations necessitated the closure of some pools until such time that the repairs and maintenance were completed.
“I am pleased to report that, after additional inspections were done, some more pools are due to open soon.
The Moffat Park swimming pool has already opened its doors following scheduled repairs, and the Senoane swimming pool opened on 29 October,” the MMC said.
Contractors are on site at the Davidsonville and Roodepoort pools, where they are busy with the necessary maintenance and repairs. These pools, along with the ones in Eastbank, Lenasia Ext 10, Rhodes Park and Robertsham, are expected to open between mid-November and December.
The CoJ has also ensured that all the pools have sufficient chemicals, to guarantee that they will remain in a pristine condition throughout the swimming season, thus ensuring that all residents can enjoy a day at the pool.
