National Homemade Cookies Day

#NationalHomemadeCookiesDay is the perfect excuse to bake today

Looking for an excuse to bake, eat or take homemade cookies to work or a neighbour? Look no further – 1 October is National Homemade Cookies Day – the perfect day to bake up your own batch of cookies!

Can you smell them now? The wonderful aroma of homemade cookies baking in the oven that makes your mouth water, be it peanut butter, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, sugar cookies or any of the many homemade cookies.

Cookies originated from extra cake batter that Dutch bakers used to experiment with by cooking it at varying oven temperatures. Eventually, they got it right, realised how yummy they are, and named these tiny cakes “cookies!”

We all have wonderful memories of coming home to warm homemade cookies with a cold glass of milk waiting on the kitchen counter. Or of going to Grandma’s house and being welcomed with a plate of freshly baked cookies. These memories are the ones that always bring a smile to your face, and that is why you should use the opportunity today to rekindle them.

To celebrate, bake up your own batch of cookies by either using a tried and tested family recipe or browse online for a new recipe to try. You can make peanut butter cup cookies, monster chip cookies, lemon sugar cookies and many more. Spoil your friends, family, neighbours or co-workers with some cookies baked with love.
