Residents urged to log faults with City Power
Various ways to log a call with City Power
Electricity outages are part of every Roodepoort resident’s everyday life, often leaving them frustrated and helpless.
In a recent press release, the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ), councillor Herman Mashaba, assured residents that City Power will do anything they can to solve electricity issues – if they know about them.
Many customers – both business and domestic – are affected by power interruptions as a result of a variety of factors, including vandalism of substations and cable theft. “Due to our inherited R170 billion infrastructure backlog, with R69 billion thereof specifically pertaining to electrical infrastructure, failures may also result from the integration between old and new technologies used to restore power following an interruption,” the Mayor said.
But, if City Power is not aware of a customer’s issue, they will not be able to resolve it. “City Power has a team of electricians and technicians who are on standby on a 24-hour basis to assist customers affected by power interruptions, and there are various ways for customers to inform them,” he said.
A customer affected by an electricity issue should inform City Power by logging a call, using the following methods:
• Log a call via the City Power website (www.citypower.co.za) and use the fault logging system
• Register on the City Power App (on your smartphone) and use the fault logging methods
• Call the CoJ’s Call Centre on 0860 562 874.
The Mayor concluded by saying, “I also encourage our residents to report any suspected suspicious activities, vandalism or theft through our 24-hour tip-off hotline 0800 002 587 or by visiting the GFIS offices situated at 48 Ameshoff Street in Braamfontein.”
