National Pecan Cookie Day
Pecans are good for you – and so are cookies! Enjoy a pecan cookie on #NationalPecanCookieDay
21 September is National Pecan Cookie Day.
The pecan cookie is a delicious snack that is enjoyed morning, noon and night, and even in between, by hungry snackers everywhere.
Pecan nuts are used in a huge variety of cookies, including butter, maple, chocolate, caramel, orange and spiced pecan cookies, but that’s not all they’re used for.
The pecan is a member of the hickory family, and is native to the central and southern United States. Today, the tree is cultivated in many countries, including South Africa. It has been the the official state tree in Texas since 1919.
“Pecan” is an Algonquin word meaning “a nut requiring a stone to crack.”
It is speculated that National Pecan Cookie Day originated in Texas but no information supporting this could be found.
Celebrate today by using a tried and true pecan cookie recipe to bake a batch. Or, if you are feeling adventurous, browse the internet and find a recipe with a difference, and try something new.
