Gold for young paddler in KZN
Ameerah claims gold at international event
Ameerah Hank from Discovery was the first U/12 female to finisher at the International Canoe Federation (ICF) World Marathon Championship event. She was competing in a “guppy” race organised to give children under the age of 12 a chance to participate with the top canoeists in the world.
Ameera was awarded her gold medal by world champion Hank McGregor, who won his 10th title as the winner of the ICF Marathon Championship. In second place was KwaZulu-Natal’s Stephanie Erasmus, with Akhona Ngcobo in third place. The international competition was hosted in Pietermaritzburg earlier this month.
Hungary dominated by achieving 20 medals, while South Africa was second with eight medals.
