National Welsh Rarebit Day is annually observed on 3 September and is day to enjoy a delicious, rabbit-free, dish.
What is a rarebit, you may ask? Well the answer is simple. Although it is a Welsh term for rabbit, this particular dish does not contain rabbit and is made of toast with melted hot cheese poured over it.
Welsh Rarebit was usually served as a succulent supper and was also known as a tavern dish in the eighteenth century. It was typically made from Cheddar cheese and wheat bread, while the Europeans usually used Swiss cheese.
As with any other dish, the Welsh rarebit comes in many different versions and variations, and some of the ingredients found in recipes include cayenne pepper, mustard, paprika and Worcestershire sauce.
Celebrate today by trying out a new recipe for Welsh Rarebit. Invite your family and friends over for some quality time and serve them this delicious dinner.
