Florida Cricket team pushes on in Lenasia Premier League
It was a Gauteng West encounter as Celestial Knights battled against Florida Cricket Club in their final match of the Round Robin games in the Lenasia Premier League.
Captain Osborn won the toss and elected to bowl first. Florida’s bowling was woeful at times, giving away 53 extras during the innings. But they were also able to restrict the Knights to singles and fours. Reggie Lethbridge was the only Florida bowler who got a wicket, bowling three overs at a cost of 16 runs.
The Knights reached 126 runs in 14 overs for a loss of just one wicket. It was then the turn of Florida’s batsmen to chase the target. Darian de Bruin and Zaid Essop opened Florida’s batting and produced a partnership of 53 runs off 34 balls as they chased down the target.
Zaid was adjudged out, Leg Before Wicket (LBW), departing the crease with a contribution of 19 runs off 20 balls. Declan Osborn joined Darian at the crease and the duo inched their team closer to a victory as their partnership brought in 57 runs off 28 balls. Declan mistimed a shot and was caught in the outfield for 22 runs off 14 balls.
Michael Perold was next up to join Darian at the crease and together they guided the team to an eight-wicket . Michael ended the match on five runs off five balls while Darian was not out for 67 runs off 33 balls. He was named the Most Valuable Player for the match.
