Taxi crash kills one and leaves two injured

One killed in taxi accident

A man, believed to be in his 50s, was killed and two other men were injured yesterday morning, when a taxi crashed into the side of a motor vehicle. The incident occurred at the Hendrik Potgieter and Ontdekkers Roads intersection in Maraisburg.

ER24 medics, along with provincial services, arrived on the scene shortly after 5am. A taxi was found parked in the middle of the road while the motor vehicle had come to a stop a short distance away.

On investigating the scene, medics discovered the lifeless body of a man lying in the passenger seat of the motor vehicle. The drivers of the motor vehicle and taxi were assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries. They were treated and transported to a nearby hospital.

Jaws of life equipment had to be used to later free the deceased from the light motor vehicle.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but JMPD and police officers were on the scene for further investigations.
