Avoid all these roads as the West Rand burns

Motorists are in for a rough ride as protests have erupted all over Johannesburg and the West Rand leading to traffic congestion.

The Department of Public Safety has released the following statement:

“Many roads have been blocked by protesters in Soweto and Turffontein this morning, this includes Soweto Highway, Immink Drive, Chris Hani Road, as well as Booysens Street and Harronmear Road. The blockages are said to be linked to the Motion of No Confidence protests, motorists should drive with extra caution as all officers on duty have been sent to the affected areas, the M1, N1, and N3 still clear.

Chris Hain Road at moroka.
Meadowlands zone 3
Rifle Range Road, Beyers Naude Drive and Marina Street closed with burning tyres by protesters.
On Main Reef and Elias Motsoaledi Roads stones and tyres are burning.
“Randfontein and impala . Elias Mostoaledi and Main reef , Beyers Naude and Marina, Hole in one Ruimsig.  Roads closed with objects and burning tyres.”
It is also wise to avoid Progress Avenue, South Road, the big circle at Durban Deep on Main Reef Road. Reports are also coming in that there is unrest on Main Reef Road in the Hamburg area.
