Family receives a welcome gift
Ek is totaal oorbluf deur mense se goedhartigheid - Karen*
“I am completely blown away by the generosity of these Samaritans,” said Karen,* the single mother the Record has been reporting on.
“At first I thought my eyes were deceiving me, but I checked with the bank and I am completely floored by this gesture,” she said.
According to Karen, she has received two substantial cash donations. “I don’t know who these people are but I can only say thank you, you have no idea what it means to us. You have made our life a little easier. Thank you so much.”
Karen says that it doesn’t mean that she is going on a shopping spree now. “I have to still work very carefully with the money because it will have to last until I can find a job. I have opened a savings account and only use the money as I need it.”
The Record previously reported on Karen and her two teenage children who were renting a room in a house in Hamberg. Their living conditions were horrendous – they did not have hot water, electricity or a kitchen, and all three of them had to share a double bed.
After she received an eviction notice from the owners of the property, she moved into a cottage in Roodepoort. Although the cottage is small, they have hot water, electricity, and a kitchenette, and her son has his own space.
“These donations bring wonderful relief but I realise they won’t last forever. I am still actively looking for work,” Karen said.
