Top teams battle for points

Match ends in exciting draw

Monash University Football Club, fresh from the handover of sponsored gear from Shield, took to the field in their new strip. The men in red faced off against the men in white from Windsor Aces Football Club at Trezona Park in Florida. The game between the two sides was for points on the Randburg League table.

From the first blow of the referee’s whistle, the two teams were attacking each other’s goal posts, forcing the goalkeepers to make saves early on. But it was in the midfield where things were bustling and the battle for dominance occurred.

This saw Monash getting a good supply of ball, and unleashing their forwards to attack Windsor’s goal. But poor finishing and better defending from Windsor ensured the teams remained deadlocked. Windsor also had its chances in the game but their attempts went wide. It was not until halfway through the first half that a piece of magic from Monash’s Bokang Morake resulted in a goal.

He scored through a set piece which seemed to ease the team’s nerves as they continued to attack until the end of the first half of the match. In the second half, the teams came back from the break refreshed and more focused. Within minutes of the start of the second half, Windsor equalised, breathing new life into their momentum.

The two teams tussled and it was once again Monash who grabbed the lead, only for Windsor to cancel it out. The match ended in a two-all draw.
