Doctor allegedly assaulted by CPF

Details surrounding incident sketchy.

The uncle of a young doctor, who at this stage wants to remain anonymous due to the early stage of the investigation, claims his nephew was assaulted by CPF members to such an extent that he is currently hospitalised at Leratong Hospital.

The incident took place at 8.30pm on Saturday, 24 June. What happened prior to the assault remains uncertain, but a car chase allegedly ensued in Florida and ended at a complex in Poortview. In the CCTV footage, the doctor’s vehicle can be seen speeding through the gates of the complex, followed by a black SUV and then a security company bakkie. A group of men also run in after the two vehicles.

The doctor was then assaulted, allegedly by a man not belonging to the CPF, as well as CPF members. It is uncertain what the security company’s involvement was. At this stage, Riaz Jogee, chairperson of the broader CPF, is investigating the incident. He managed to track down the CPF members but they have denied being involved in the assault.

“We distance ourselves from the incident and any members in general taking the law into their own hands. The perpetrators must be brought to book and the law must take its course,” said an angry Jogee.

The Record is awaiting comment from the security company and Jogee’s findings.
