Help the Earth Centre remain grounded

Your help is needed

The Earth Centre, formerly known as the South African Riding for the Disabled Association is looking for volunteers. Prior knowledge of horses or of people with disabilities is not needed as thorough training will be provided.

The extra hands are needed especially on Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 12pm to help lead the horses and assist the riders to get onto the horses during sessions.

Each week, The Earth Centre hosts learners from 10 schools and provides them with riding opportunities on either horses, ponies or miniature donkeys. Some learners need three helpers each, while others need only one, depending on their disabilities.

Volunteers help riders play special games while riding and the Centre uses therapeutic and recreational horse riding to help disabled people heal emotionally.

Next month, the Centre will host workshops for volunteers. These are the dates:

Tuesday 11 July – Advanced

Monday 17 July – Beginner

Thursday 20 July – Intermediate

Wednesday 12 July – Horse body language workshop at R50 per participant

Wednesday 19 July – Autism workshop at R50 per participant
