A number of karatekas from the Horizon Karate Centre competed in the SA JKA National Championships.
The competition was held at the Ellis Park Events Arena and 3 000 entrants from all nine provinces participated. To qualify for the national team, karatekas had to first be selected to be part of the Gauteng team. The Horizon Karate Centre’s karatekas won 15 gold medals, nine silvers and 13 bronzes.
Eugene du Toit and Adam Poulter won two gold medals each, while Crystal Poulter, Nadine Parker and Lindi Engelbrecht won a gold medal each for the team kata in the senior elite women’s category. Bianca Jansen van Rensburg won two gold medals in the special needs category.

Tiro Rampou , Kwenzi Nkala, Willem Viljoen, Mpho Ndlovu and Itanje Marnewick won a gold and a bronze medal each.
Tristan Clark won a gold medal, while Kathrin Trumpelmann and Kyle Grobler achieved a silver medal each.
Lindani Fani, Navarro Brophey and Abishai Pandey won a silver and a bronze medal each and Willie du Toit won two bronze medals.
Matthew Martin, Lee Rudman, Zander Veldman, Gabo Namola, Abegail Namola, Ronel Swanevelder and Matuschka de Jager won a bronze medal each.
