Wilro Lions welcome new president

Rajes inducted as club president

The Lions Club of Wilro Park inducted a new club president recently.

Rajes Naidoo was inducted by the District Governor, Bernd Gerhard, during a function at Usambara. “It is a huge honour and pleasure to be asked to perform the induction ceremony for incoming president Rajes,” he said.

But, what made the ceremony even more special, was the fact that the Lions Clubs International is also celebrating 100 years of service.

“It is a very exciting time for the Lions and we plan to leave many legacy projects during this, our centennial year,” said Sandy van Heerden, the Lions’ Public Relations Officer.

The highlight of the induction was the candle ceremony, which symbolises the light of Lionism being passed from one president to another.

The club’s outgoing president, Delphine Ferreira, reported on her year in office and said, “Wilro Park Lions have made a difference in the lives of people in need, but of course, there is always more to do. In order to serve our communities more effectively, we need to embrace change where necessary”. She also thanked the club members for their support, hard work, and involvement in many worthwhile projects during the year.

“Everyone at the Wilro Lions is looking forward to working with incoming president Rajes who will be taking over the leadership role from 1 July. She will be serving until 30 June 2018,” said Sandy.
