The laughter is back
I am trying to save as much money as I can to ensure that we still have food on the table," Karen said.
The atmosphere in Karen’s* home has changed dramatically since the family moved.
The lawyer who handled the sale of the house they previously lived in managed to find them a place to stay as well as organise that the rent for the next eight months is paid in full.
“At least I don’t have to stress about that right now. My work contract expires at the end of this month (30 June) and I need to find another job as soon as possible.
I am trying to save as much money as I can to ensure that we still have food on the table,” Karen said.
The two-roomed cottage is small, but her son at least has his own bed to sleep in. “It is in the kitchen, but that doesn’t matter. My daughter and I still share a bed and a room, but it is more comfortable. You have to walk through the shower to get to the toilet, but at least we have water and electricity,” she giggled.
Their five cats, that were sterilised by Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw), have found another home, “We were not allowed to bring them along, but they are safe and well taken care of. My only immediate concern is finding another job, and then buying my daughter proper school shoes. We also urgently need toiletries.”
