Harawa family woes are over
This news was too much for Doris to handle, and she fainted
Monica Harawa and her 17-year-old daughter Doris from Durban Deep waited in anticipation for the guests to arrive.
Two benefactors joined the Record, animal activist and humanitarian Cora Bailey and Taren Welthagen, both from Community Led Animal Welfare to deliver news that will change Doris’s future forever.

The benefactors, who wish to remain anonymous, said they are undertaking to pay her tuition fees until she finishes her matric year.
This news was too much for Doris to handle, and she fainted. After she came to and composed herself, she entered into discussions about her subjects and school uniform.
More news was waiting to be delivered to Cora and Doris. A Swiss donor came forward and donated money that will go towards Doris’s school uniform.
“Doris is a lovely child, I am so happy for her. Thank you so much to the benefactors for paying her tuition fees and to the Swiss donor for the money. This is amazing news,” Cora said.
The Record wrote about Monica and the hardships she has to endure on a daily basis in the 9 June edition. Monica and her husband are Malawians. Monica is crippled by polio and has to crawl on all fours should she need to go into their home, which is in a garage.
Despite this, she looks after several babies during the day, to supplement her husband’s weekly wage of R400.
