National Peanut Butter Cookie Day

Enjoy a delicious peanut butter cookie on #NationalPeanutButterCookieDay

12 June is marked annually as National Peanut Butter Cookie Day, the perfect opportunity to have as much peanut buttery goodness as you can handle – the whole day long.

George Washington Carver – Alabama’s American Agricultural Extension Educator, is the best-known promoter of the peanut. He compiled 105 peanut recipes from various cookbooks, agricultural bulletins and various other sources.

He put together a research bulletin, titled How to Grow the Peanut and 105 Ways of Preparing it for Human Consumption, in 1916. Included in this research bulletin were three recipes for peanut cookies – calling for crushed or chopped peanuts as one of the ingredients.

It was in the early 1920s that peanut butter became a listed ingredient in cookies. Homemade peanut butter cookies would just not be right without the traditional forked criss-crosses on them!

To celebrate, bake some delicious peanut butter cookies, invite your friends and family and enjoy some quality time together.
