“We were all created for a bigger purpose”

Grobler Park resident a Mrs Commonwealth 2017 finalist

“We were ordained for greatness before we were born, and we should not be content with anything less,” said Belincia George.

45-year old Belincia is a Grobler Park resident who is a Mrs Commonwealth 2017 finalist. The purpose of this pageant is to empower, inspire and motivate women to bring sustainable change to communities. The official sponsor for the pageant is the Breast Cancer Non-Profit Organisation (NPO), The Pink Drive.

She is a wife and mother of two children who works at Alexander Forbes. She describes herself as someone who loves to make a difference in the lives of other people, especially women. “I decided to participate in this pageant, because I want to motivate and give hope to the hopeless, especially women who never receive the honour they deserve. It often happens that only women who achieved great academic results receive any honour, and the single mom raising her children on her own, is often forgotten,” she said.

“Because I grew up in poverty, which resulted in me feeling inferior, I decided I want to tell the world’s women we were all created for a bigger purpose and that we should not accept anything less,” she said.

She added that she had to learn the hard way that it is difficult to spread your message and be taken seriously, with no platform to do it from. “I found out that if you have a sash, doors tend to open for you,” said Belincia.

Belincia is aiming to host a wellness day in Eldorado Park, as part of her duties as a finalist. “The wellness day is planned for 1 July and my aim is to create cancer awareness. Most underprivileged women do not have the opportunity to go for regular check-ups because of financial difficulties. I would also like to arrange a breakfast, and encourage women of all walks of life to attend,” she said.

She is appealing to the community to assist in this regard, as the hospital has agreed to participate if she can find 300 women to attend the event. “This is where I require the community’s assistance – not only to attend the day, but also to be sponsors for the breakfast,” Belincia said.
