I am not a politician nor do I propose to run for any political position. I read your letter in last week’s Roodepoort Record. The lack of action might cost voters, and I am very sad to see your complaint.
Here are some tips to help your DA councillor remedy just a few of your list of complaints:
1. Litter can be picked up by any South African citizen. In fact, if you look at other DA run wards, you will see initiatives that the citizens have put in place that are supported by their relevant councillors …. so, if you don’t want to see litter, pick it up.
2. The vagrants can be removed. Take pictures of them, report life endangerment to the police and escalate it to your ward councillor. Put a petition together.
3. The noisy machinery employed to fix the sub-station makes sure you have electricity. It is most likely a generator, which by the way, City Power pays for to be running. So, maybe you should go and have a look and determine first the reason for it being there before complaining about it.
4. Rocks on pavements are not any person’s property. If an advert is painted on it, who are you to complain? If the adverts are an eyesore, find and pay for a contractor to collect the rocks and take them to the veld somewhere. Don’t you think that the person advertising also wishes to sleep in a warm bed and eat cooked food?
Those are just a few possible solutions to just a few listed items. If you are going to complain, why not first start your letters by saying … “This is how I tried solving the problem, before I wrote this letter …”
I really wish that South Africans would realise that a democracy is not run by politicians, but by citizens who are willing to roll up their sleeves and actually do something about their situations.
