Sensei chooses the karate lifestyle
Love and passion are the driving forces
West Rand Gojuryu Karate is located at Laerskool Helderkruin’s hall. There Sensei George Capazorio imparts the knowledge of karate he has accumulated over more than 40 years. He started training in the martial arts in 1972 and has credited it as a life-changing experience.
To Sensei George, karate became a lifestyle and in 1976 he went on to teach it to those as passionate and curious about the martial arts as he is.
“To be immersed in the martial arts to the point where it becomes a lifestyle – that’s how it is for me and most people. When I started teaching, I never guessed that today I would known and have taught so many of our nation’s karate superstars, many of them since they were in diapers,” he said.
After being involved in karate for 44 years, Sensei George admitted that he still loves teaching children and adults alike, getting them off the couch and streets.
“We want to get them to do something physical. Today life is all about laptops, computer games and tablets; children don’t participate in physical activities. But once they start karate, they will see and enjoy the benefits of being active, which is good for one’s body,” he said.
Training sessions are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.45pm. For more information, contact Sensei George on 083 2666 580 or 011 955 3379.
