Mike Tyson seems to be a favourite among young boxers at Witpoortjie Vikings Amateur Boxing Club.
Seven-year-old Martin van der Walt also looks up to the iconic boxer and is happy to have won his first match in the ring. He was participating in the recent boxing tournament held in Springs and made his club-mates proud.
“I love boxing because my mother was a boxer too. I’ve also made lots of friends here at the club,” he said.
Martin’s dream is to be a world champion like his idol and he has been training hard to make sure his dream comes true. He’s been training four nights a week for two hours, working on his footwork, hand-eye coordination and being composed in the ring.
Martin also runs five kilometres each day to keep his body fit and healthy.
