The Wilro Park Lions’ community centre was filled with eager members of all the different clubs wanting to learn more about public relations, marketing and communication.

The Public Relations (PR) workshop was held on Saturday (21 May) to assist the public relations officers (PRO) of the various clubs to market the Lions and what they stand for more effectively. “We do not always understand why our articles and photos are not used for the paper, or why people do not know about the Lions and what we do,” said Sandy van Heerden, the PRO of Wilro Park Lions.

The workshop was divided into different sessions with specific presenters touching on necessary subjects. The club’s president, Delphine Ferreira started off proceedings with a presentation on how to think out of the box to create awareness through PR communications, marketing and branding. That was followed by Max and Cheron Kaan, who did a presentation on the art of public speaking, promising attendees that they would, at the end of the presentation, believe that public speaking was fun, easy, enjoyable and that anyone can do it.
The Record team was also invited to the workshop and the editor, Roelien Vorster, gave some tips on how to get their news into the paper, as well as how to take suitable photographs. Michelle Hone did a presentation on effective marketing, after which the day’s activities were concluded.

Sandy concluded by saying, “We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for giving up your time and for sharing information that will help us to keep our communities well informed regarding Lions Clubs International and the very worthwhile projects we do – your support is much appreciated.”
