One man died after two motor vehicles collided on Hendrik Potgieter Road just past Clearwater Mall during the night of 18 May. The vehicle, a BMW, was travelling at high speed and the driver lost control, and then collided with another vehicle, a Toyota Yaris.
Quick Response Service paramedics were quickly dispatched to the scene along with various other ambulance services. They found that the driver of the BMW had sustained moderate injuries and was transported to hospital for further medical examination. The driver of the Toyota Yaris succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. Members of the JMPD were also present to conduct an investigation

According to eye-witnesses, the BMW was allegedly racing with another vehicle when the driver lost control. The other vehicle allegedly fled the scene after the incident.
