Riot police steps in on Main Reef
Traffic heavily congested in surrounding areas.
Disgruntled residents of Matholesville and surrounding areas have caused chaos on Main Reef Road since early this morning (12 May).
Traffic was extremely congested when motorists were rerouted as a stretch of Main Reef Road had to be closed at Gustav Street, Corlett Avenue and Progress Road due to the riot. Teargas and rubber bullets were fired to disperse the angry rock-throwing crowds. At the time of publication Roodepoort Police and the Metro Police were negotiating with the upset community members.

The past week was marred by violent protests in Zenzele, Ennerdale, Eldorado Park and Florida, among other places in the country.
Motorists are advised to completely avoid the area until further notice. The Record will keep its readers updated as the drama unfolds.
