Update: More than 190 000 online registrations processed
Halfway mark passed
This year’s online registration process for Grades 1 and 8 seems to be going very well, with the halfway mark reached in just two days.
According to the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), by lunch time yesterday (4 May) they had already processed more than 190 000 applications. “That means we have now passed the halfway mark and should reach the expected 350 000 applications in just three days. We are pleased that the online application system has been able to cope with the traffic and we have been able to cope with challenges as they arise,” said Oupa Bodibe, the GDE spokesperson.

The average number of applications processed daily stands at approximately 60 000, and could be used as an indicator that, in the coming years, the GDE will be in a position to complete the process within a year. “It also shows that there is a possibility that this system could be expanded to include other grades as well,” Bodibe said.
The GDE added that they have noticed some confusion regarding the interpretation of waiting list numbers. They can be summarised as follow:
• WA – means that the parent qualifies in terms of the Regulation
• WB – means that the parent does not qualify and needs to apply to a school where the waiting list will be WA
• WAB – means that the location of the address that the parent inserted could not be verified. Verification will take place at the school/s on presentation of the required documentation.
Parents are urged to used Google Chrome to access the online website as it is faster than other search engines. They should also remember to submit their documents to the school within seven days, because if they are not submitted within this period, the application cannot be completed.
Online applications close at midnight on 12 June and placement of learners will start from 24 July.
