JMPD is looking for new recruits

Do you have what it takes to be a JMPD officer?

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department is looking for 1 500 new recruits to join their ranks. Do you have what it takes?

According to the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety, councillor Michael Sun, they are looking for 1 500 men and women to undergo training. “On successful completion of the training course, they will stand a chance of becoming metro police officers of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ),” he said.

He added that he was searching for people who have a high sense of justice and integrity to join the Department and serve and protect the residents of the city.

The recruitment of new officers comes after Sun was allocated additional money within the budget, specifically to increase the number of JMPD officers. “This is the first step under the new administration to not only enhance visible policing, but to also create jobs for men and women who might either be unemployed or those searching for a meaningful way to contribute to society,” said Sun.

He also said that, with the addition of 1 500 extra officers that could be deployed throughout the CoJ, visible policing would be more tangible and effective in curbing crime.

To apply for these positions, you should be:

• A South African citizen residing within the jurisdiction of CoJ;

• Between the ages of 18 and 35;

• In possession of a valid Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or NQF level 4 equivalent);

• Proficient in English;

• In possession of a valid Code B manual transmission driver’s licence;

• Physically and mentally fit. You should be able to successfully participate in and complete a pre-training fitness test;

• Cleared of and have no criminal record and/or civil judgment relating to fraud and/or corruption;

• Prepared to carry a firearm and perform duties in uniform.

Trainees will be subject to the terms of a training contract for the duration of the training period and will receive a stipend from the city.

To apply, send an updated curriculum vitae (CV), plus certified copies of qualifications, your driver’s licence, South African ID, medical certificate and proof of residence to response@staffingdirect.co.za or fax them to 086 618 0215. Documents can also be hand-delivered to SD Recruitment, Randburg Garden Mall, 343 Kent Avenue, Randburg, between 8am and 4pm. Closing date for applications is 4 May.

Sun concluded by saying, “We look forward to the brave men and women in the City answering the call of honour and becoming a member of the elite law enforcement of the city.”
