National Reconciliation Day

Patch up up relationships on #NationalReconciliationDay

Although there are many different Days of Reconciliation celebrated around the world, National Reconciliation Day, which is celebrated on 2 April, is a day intended for patching up relationships.

Several references to Reconciliation Days celebrated throughout the year can be found, however, credit for National Reconciliation Day is given to Ann Landers, a American newspaper journalist. In 1989, she began to promote 2 April as Reconciliation Day annually, in a response to one of her reader’s letters. She encouraged her readers to repair their broken relationships and dedicated each column she wrote on 2 April to letters concerning just such relationships.

Misunderstandings, unintended words or actions and simply an unforgiven mistake can tear a relationship apart. Today is the perfect opportunity to take that step and make amends. It is never too late to reach out to that friend or loved one and make a new start.
