Princess Protest: Conflicting reports about road closure

After four days of violence and road closures, both roads bordering Princess Informal Settlement have been re-opened – for now.

Although Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said last night that Albertina Sisulu and South Roads would remain closed until further notice, both roads were open this morning – albeit scattered with debris. The safety of motorists can however not be guaranteed, as the protest could flare up at any moment.

During Wednesday night one person was killed and several businesses were petrol-bombed. A long-haul truck was also torched yesterday (9 March)
