The Forever Resorts Loskop Series, comprising the traditional Loskop Marathon and the 21,1km Forever Resorts Wild Challenge, is taking place on Saturday 22 April. This year marks the 31st Loskop Ultra Marathon and the 11th run of the Wild Challenge.
The 50km Forever Resorts Loskop Marathon, which is a favourite among seasoned road-running athletes and is also a Comrades Marathon qualifying event, has been voted as the third best marathon in South Africa on numerous occasions. The start, at 6am at the Steve Tshwete Municipal Buildings in Middelburg, takes place on the Highveld at an altitude of 1 540 metres above sea level and ends in the Lowveld at an altitude of 930 metres above sea level.
The 21,1km Forever Resorts Wild Challenge starts at 6.30am and will be run through the scenic Loskop Dam Nature Reserve, which should not only offer a challenging and picturesque route, but also a wild experience that will tempt athletes to return for more, year after year.
The Rhino fun-run (4,9km) is also taking place again this year. This family fun-run takes place on the same day, from the start of the 21,1km Wild Challenge (near the Dam wall). This unique run will be towards Loskop Dam, A Forever Resort alongside the dam. Entries for the fun-run can be made on race day, at the start, at R35 per entry. Proceeds will contribute towards the Friends of Loskop Conservation Fund. No prize-money will be awarded, but all finishers will receive a medal. Walkers are also welcome. The fun-run starts at 6.45am.
