Residents of Florida and its surrounds will have to wait up to 12 hours for their power to be restored. According to City Power, the outages are due to theft and vandalism at a Florida substation. Residents had a rough start to the day as the power outage caused heavy traffic on the roads as well as various other power-related issues.
City Power said it was doing its best to restore the power in affected areas and expects power to be fully restored later in the day. Areas affected include Fleurhof, Lea Glen, Randwater Pump Station, Florida, Florida North, Industria North, Florida Glen, Whiteridge and Bergbron.
City Power encourages residents to report suspicious or fraudulent behaviour in the area to either its toll free number 0800 002 587 or to the police on 10111.
The company will keep customers updated on the situation throughout the day on its Twitter account, @CityPowerjhb
City Power apologises to customers affected by the outages for the inconvenience caused.
