Boxer confident of title

Wynand targeting title

“My chance to shine has arrived” are the sentiments of local boxer, Wynand Mulder. He will get a chance to fight one-on-one against Jade Karam for the Gauteng Middleweight title on 30 March. This will be Wynand’s first fight since he tore his left bicep tendon in Krugersdorp last year.

“Three years ago, I tore my right bicep tendon and that delayed my return to the ring, but this time the damage was not too severe and my biokineticist and nutritionist were able to get me back on track,” said Wynand.

“What was frustrating about that fight was that I was on the verge of victory but because my bicep tore, I could not continue. So it counts as a loss on my record,” he added.

The middleweight boxer is confident that the title is already his for the taking and that victory will open doors to more titles.

“The win against Jade will open doors for me. I am already thinking of where to put the belt in my home, that’s how confident I am. From here on, I can challenge for the SA-Pan African title and even bigger matches will follow.”

Wynand has been training with Alan Toweel, a legendary trainer in the country, and one of his club-mates has experience fighting Jade.

“Jade is a Lebanese fighter from the South of Johannesburg so I’ll be fighting in his home-town. I will definitely be ready for whatever he throws at me because I have been working hard to make sure I’m prepared for this match,” said Wynand. He has been working tirelessly on his hand speed and power drills.

“Jade is a boxer with a big heart and never quits, but I’m looking forward to my victory because I have always dreamed of having a belt. However, I would like to plead with all local businesses to support boxers and athletes from other sports. There is a lot weighing on the shoulders of an athlete and to have sponsors willing to take off a bit of that load will be so helpful. Their chance to be at our side while we rise is now.”

Wynand will be taking on Jade on 30 March at Presley’s in Boksburg. Doors open at 6pm. For more information, contact Andre on 083 458 1340.
