‘Your inner voice’ was the theme when members of Florida Toastmasters gave voice to their potential on Tuesday, 7 February.
Karen Levy Strauss, a dynamic and distinguished Toastmaster, presented the educational ‘Pathways’, a world-class programme that will roll out in October 2017, to help members start their journey by choosing the path that’s right for them.
“It will help them to succeed and thrive in an evolving society inside and outside Toastmasters, plus they can enjoy the flexibility of working online as well as with the hard-copy manuals.”
Paul Muller explained the different types of bacteria that live in various locations in your gastrointestinal tract.

“ ‘Gut micro biota’ is the name given to the microbe population living in the intestine,” he said. “The micro biota in your intestine are like an individual identity card. To protect and optimise gut bacteria, and for overall health and mental well-being, proper nourishment is critical.”

We journeyed back to the fall of Tobruk, on 21 June 1942 with Des Smith. She kept members in suspense, specifically with the experience of South African Lance-Corporal Job Masego, who became a prisoner of war at Tobruk. He discovered a small tin in the sand and decided to make a bomb by filling it with gunpowder from cartridges. On 21st July, while employed by the Germans unloading a ship in the harbour, he hid it among some petrol drums, then laid the fuse. He lit the fuse as he left the ship. The ship blew up in the harbour and sank that night. A few days later, he and a comrade escaped, and walked for 23 days before reaching the British lines.
Tim Knight stepped up to the lectern once again and demonstrated how to fine-tune your negotiation skills in a role play with Kevin Loader. If you don’t reach agreement with the other person, what alternatives do you have? For a negotiation to be a ‘win-win’ both parties should feel positive about the negotiation once it’s over.
The Table Topics session was presented by Louis Nigrini.

The Trophy for the Best Prepared Speech was awarded to Tim Knights. Barry Nelson won the Trophy for the Best Speech Evaluator and Kevin Loader was awarded the trophy for the Best Impromptu Speech.
