Local Baby Sanctuary needs your help

Despite challenges, Baby Moses tries to provide the best for the children.

The Baby Moses Child and Baby Sanctuary is appealing for your assistance and donations. The sanctuary, which provides homes and refuge for abused and abandoned children, needs financial support to keep its homes open.

Last year, the organisation announced plans to close down one of its oldest homes in Merle Street, following ongoing financial challenges and difficulties. The Merle Street home caters for a total of six and sometimes more destitute and abused children.

Executive Director at Baby Moses, Christo de Klerk, says although the organisation has since managed to keep the home open, financial challenges still remain one of its major constraints.

“We have implemented a lot of measures to ensure that we are able to keep the home open for much longer. This is certainly good news as this is where it all started 15 years ago. The girls under our care will continue to live at the home in Merle Street with no further disruptions,” he said.

Despite challenges, Baby Moses tries to provide the best for the children. In January, the sanctuary took some of the children to the Moscow Circus in Monte Casino. It has also initiated weekly park-runs to keep its children entertained. Christo says the well-being and happiness of those under their care remains a major priority at Baby Moses. “Last year, our organisation had a very difficult year and the children shared in the burden. We intend to make 2017 a very special year for them. It is our key performance item with monthly follow-ups. However, we cannot do it in isolation and for this reason we are dependent on our donors, sponsors and supporters,” he concluded.

Baby Moses needs the following:

– Day care centre equipment, such as educational toys, stationery, small stacker beds, small chairs, plastic dishes and cutlery.

– Help with converting a flatlet into an emergency placement shelter.

– Curtains, bedding and appliances such microwaves, pots, pans, kettles etc.

– Sponsors for school tours and winter school uniforms for 5 children.

– Mathematics curriculum set (manipulatives and books).

– Transport fees to take children to school and assistance towards study fees for school leavers.

The sanctuary welcomes any assistance possible. All financial donations, whether by individuals or companies qualify for a tax deduction. For more information, please contact Christo de Klerk on 011 768 7600 or send an email to baby.moses@icon.co.za.
