It was another tough day for Florida Cricket Club’s senior team as they took on their Lenasia counterparts, Crescents Cricket Club this weekend.
The First XI Promotion League match was played in Lenasia and the Florida team lost the toss, batting first to set a target. The morning conditions were favourable for batting, however, the top four batsmen struggled to kick on from their decent starts due to accurate bowling from the Crescents. Cole Abrahams and Caleb Probert opened the batting but it did not take long for Abrahams to depart after scoring 20 runs from 34 balls, leaving the scoreboard on 52 runs.

The score had not moved when Probert was next to fall on 18 runs from 32 balls, leaving two new batsmen at the crease. Junior van Rooyen and Deen Kimmie formed a 45-run partnership to solidify the innings before Kimmie was out for 14 runs from 37 balls. Van Rooyen followed two runs later after scoring 27 runs from 50 balls. The rest of the middle order could not reach double digits except for Omar Kimmie who scored 24 runs from 38 balls. The Florida team was bowled out for 156 runs.
The Crescents were confident in their run chase as they took their time in executing their game plan to perfection, rotating the strike as much as possible. Florida’s bowlers and fielders were made to work hard with Omar taking two wickets for 22 runs. His efforts were not enough to deny Crescents the victory with six wickets in hand. Florida will not have time to lick their wounds as they next face Alexandra Cricket Club.
